This video shows the technical side of making paperweights with Schott Ophthalmic Glass. A furnace in not used. Schott Glass gobs or "Hockey Pucks" are heated in an oven and picked up with a steel punty. The gob is "skinned" and the resulting gather of crystal clear glass is used to encapsulate a setup in a heated vacuum cup. A foot activated vacuum system is used. Mechanical rollers and torches are used to keep one half of the paperweight hot and centered on the punty. Another gob is picked up, "skinned", and used to add the bottom of the paperweight.
This video shows four paperweights being made. There is a large section showing common mistakes.
This is an advanced video. Techniques shown are not for beginners.
